Hi Alamitos Beach Lovers!
First off, I want to thank everyone who came to California Coastal Cleanup Day last Sunday! We had 107 volunteers join us for this statewide effort, sponsored by the California Coastal Commission. Together, we collected 150 pounds of trash from Alamitos Beach. By far, the most common items found were cigarette butts — as our friends at the Long Beach Environmental Alliance like to say “Drop booty, not butts.” For more info about Coastal Cleanup Month, visit https://coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd.html
Second, although we planned to have two cleanups this month, the Long Beach Grand Prix has been rescheduled for this weekend, Sept. 24th-26th. Due to road closures and restricted parking at Alamitos Beach, we have decided to cancel the cleanup scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 26th. Sorry for the late notice, but we hope to see you all next month! We’ll be at the beach on Oct. 24th and Nov. 28th from 10 am-11 am.
